Indian Head Massage as we know it today is a treatment based on an old Ayurveda technique. It has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years. IHM, as practised in Europe incorporates modern western techniques. Today, in India 85% of the population lives in villages where Indian Head Massage is still a tradition. Indian head massage is a relaxing holistic treatment that uses acupressure massage on the head, face, neck and shoulders. It aims to rebalance your body’s energies.
A consultation is required at your first treatment; this ensures Indian Head Massage is right for you. Typically, an Indian Head Massage lasts approximately 40 minutes and includes the head, face, neck, upper back and arms. Every treatment is tailored to the recipient’s needs and areas of the body can be omitted. During the treatment towels are used to ensure your modesty. Aromatherapy oils are used to help nourish the skin and allow a smooth continuous flowing movement.
What is it good for? Indian head massage may help increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, may improve blood circulation and lymphatic flow, can free knots of muscular tension, may relax connective tissue, and may aid in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products.
Indian Head Massage can help many aliments and has a number of benefits, including the sample list below:
Note: Indian Head Massage is not a substitute for medical treatment nor is it a diagnostic system. Always consult a GP or other health professional for medical attention and advice.
If you are looking for a treatment to help you relax and take time out for yourself, I usually suggest that you come for an Indian head massage every 2–4 weeks.
After an Indian head massage you are likely to feel great: relaxed, serene, ache-free, clear-headed, ready to tackle that important report for work, run the children ragged round the park, or fall asleep immediately, depending on the kind of oils used probably!
But beware: you will feel great; you won’t look great. With all that oil stiffening on your hair, you’ll probably look like you put conditioner on it three days ago and forgot to rinse it out.
In the long-term, the deep-down effects of your Indian head massage may well leave your hair softer, shinier and in much better condition; in the short-term, wear a hat or a very cunning hair band.
Why not try an Indian Head Massage on your next spa day?
A Thai foot massage applies pressure to particular areas of the soles of the feet. Hands, fingers, thumbs, knuckles and a rounded wooden Thai Foot Massage stick are used to stimulates certain areas of the feet releasing blocked energy within the body’s many Sens lines (Thai-based meridians).
A Thai Foot Massage is a massage of the feet and lower legs. It’s has elements of shiatsu, reflexology and Chinese massage incorporated into the treatment. Dating back over 2,000 years and appears to become strongly influenced by the Indian Ayurvedic System of healing traditional Chinese medicine. Originally the knowledge and techniques were closely held secrets kept alive and passed down through generations by the Buddhist monks of the Thai Royal Palace. Adjacent to the palace is a traditional massage school where training and study take place today.
A full consultation is carried out allowing a treatment to be tailored to the clients needs. Client remains fully clothed, ideally wearing loose fitting clothing that can be taken up comfortably above the knee. The client lies on the treatment couch, and the therapist begins by applying massage oil to both feet and legs. As well as the therapist using palms, fingers, thumbs and knuckles to work the feet a traditional massage stick is also used.
Thai foot massage is both invigorating and deeply relaxing. It is beneficial for tired feet, improves circulation, lymph movement and flexibility in the feet and lower legs. Produces a deep and unique feeling of balance, relaxation and well being. Other benefits include:

Ear Candling has been used for many years in the treatment of common ear, nose and throat conditions. Originating from the Hopi Indians of North America it has many practical uses in today’s world.
1 hour treatment including ear candling, facial drainage and relaxing scalp massage
Ear candling is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries in many cultures throughout the world. They are hollow tubes made from unbleached cotton or linen and hardened with beeswax.
What are Hopi Ear Candles?
Thermal Auricular Therapy (also known as Hopi Ear Candles) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. We use Hopi Candles frequently at Zen Day Spa. These ear candles induce a revitalising heat upon the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes.
A Brief History of Hopi Ear Candles
This is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially probably for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later on a purely physical basis. However, the practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona (it’s interesting to note that Hopi means peaceful people). Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings show their importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.
What are Hopi Ear Candles used for?
Though results may vary from patient to patient, some of my clients have reported Hopi Candles may help with a wide range of disorders in ears and/or sinuses and have a relaxing calming effect for stress disorders. Remember, if in doubt, always contact your GP.
How do Hopi Ear Candles work?
The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. A constant high quality is ensured. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle “chimney”, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
What are the benefits of Hopi Ear Candling treatments?
It’s soothing effect can assist in the relief of symptoms for conditions such as Tinnitus, Ringing, Compacted ear wax, Sore throat, Asthma and Hay fever. In addition conditions such as:
What a typical Treatment Session entails?
You are asked to lie comfortably and listen to relaxing music. The candle is then gently placed into the auditory canal, where it is lit. The therapist will hold it in a vertical position, keeping the candle steady and preventing any ash falling on to you. You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns and a warm comfortable feeling. As the candle burns down, the residue ash (if it falls) will just turn to dust.
The candle is then taken away while you lie there for a few moments before turning over to treat the other ear. Most clients find the whole experience very relaxing. Some fall asleep during treatment. The treatment lasts approximately 30-45minutes.
As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that ear candling is right for you.
Are there any side effects?
No contra-indications are known to date but as a precaution, it is advisable not to use Hopi candles:
• If grommets are in place
• If there is inflammation or infection
• In the event of an allergic reaction to the contents.
However, most clients find the treatment relaxing and regularly describe a “slight relieved feeling” in the ears and head but also a relaxing and calming effect on the whole system.
Where long-term conditions are being treated, the client sometimes experiences slight headaches and occasional popping shortly after the treatment.
How much does it cost?
Hopi Ear Candling treatment with facial massage will cost £40.
Your therapist will select and aromatic oil according to your concerns, be they muscle pain, stress relief, relaxation or balance. The flowing massage works deeper into the tension, encouraging optimum circulation.
Hand massage has numerous benefits, both physical and psychological. Physically, it helps to improve circulation, relieve pain and stiffness, increase flexibility and mobility, and reduce swelling. In addition, regular hand massages can improve the skin’s overall health, leaving it feeling soft, smooth, and hydrated.
Massaging these areas loosens them up and allows blood flow back to the area. Another benefit of a hand and arms massage is that it relieves pain. The pressure applied during a massage helps to break down scar tissue and stimulate circulation which is important for healing.
Aromatherapy massage with hot stones warms muscles and relieves aches and spasms quickly while supporting wellness through the therapeutic and energetic properties of pure essential oils.
